Western Area Camp

Two coaches, Alison and Sophie along with seven players (all who are also club junior coaches) attended the 15th John Davies Western area and England camp from 4-8 August.

The camp first started in 2009, when five Patchway players attended, there were 22 altogether, from England and Germany. This year there were 88 players staying at camp, with over 20 attending day sessions throughout the week. Players came from all over England, Scotland, Ireland, Germany, France and Czech Republic.

Players were put in teams of 11, with a team captain, team mentor and allocated coach to support them through out the week.

Guest coaches took sessions across the week, including the return to camp for Lele Nairne, 2024 Olympian!

As well as judo players took part in running, team games, circuits, yoga, surfing, ending with a tug of war against all the coaches!

Great fun and supportive coaches. Made new friends and learnt new throws and techniques.

Amelia

Really nice players and coaches, good fun and great judo sessions.

Daisy

Nice atmosphere and great fun and l learned lots of new things.

Matthew

Great social side and techniques kind and supportive coaches had a blast.

Mercedes

A fantastic experience. Brilliant expert coaching. Good accommodation. Great fun!

Sam

An amazing opportunity to learn new skills and techniques and to socialise . Everybody there is amazing and things are designed to push you to your limits but it doesn’t matter because you just need to “ suck it up ! “ I love coming back every year and can’t wait to go again.

Eloise

Great experience for our players, Eloise, Amelia and Matthew had been to the camp before, it was first time for Sam, Daisy, Mercedes and Hunter.

Hard and tiring week, they were coached by top coaches and players, had the opportunity to try new things. Worked as a team with other players they hadn’t met before!

Sam and Matthew won some of Lele’s kit, which they wore with pride and Amelia got to have a new photo with Lele to update her screen saver!

Extremely proud of all of them, they did coaches and club proud!

Huge thank you to Simon Ward, Kingsley School judo for organising another excellent event.
